PhD candidate 'Treatment Optimisation for Tuberculosis'

The PhD position will be based within the Department of Pulmonary Diseases and embedded in the larger TB research group. The candidate will work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, with close interactions with researchers and clinicians from different departments and areas of expertise.

An important aspect of this position is the opportunity to become part of several established national and international TB research networks. The candidate will be closely involved in the PORT trial, an international clinical trial investigating optimised rifampicin dosing for TB treatment, for which the supervisor serves as co-principal investigator (co-PI). The candidate will work closely with the trial sponsor team and contribute to both the implementation and scientific activities of the study.

In addition, the candidate will become part of the UNITE4TB consortium, one of the largest global clinical TB research collaborations. This provides access to an extensive international network of TB researchers, as well as valuable clinical trial data, biological samples, and opportunities for collaborative research.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with:

• A completed MSc degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Biology, or a related field.
• A strong interest in infectious diseases, clinical research, and global health.
• Enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research and a willingness to work across clinical, laboratory, imaging, and/or modelling approaches.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a collaborative research team.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills, with attention to scientific detail.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.

Experience with clinical research, laboratory techniques, data analysis, programming, or epidemiological modelling is advantageous but not essential. Most importantly, we are looking for a curious, motivated, and collaborative researcher who is eager to contribute to improving tuberculosis treatment.
