FLEX Student Editor Research

Where will you work and with whom?

You will work from within the research institute, close to the people and activities that can lead you to interesting stories and researchers.

To identify potential topics, you will regularly join:

• the weekly team meeting of the research institute;
• the weekly editorial meeting for the research newsletter;
• and, where relevant, the monthly meetings or activities of the PhD editorial.

You will work closely with the institute’s communication team and with our PhD editorial: a team of PhD candidates who contribute to communication within our research community alongside their own research.

You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with communication advisers, science press officers, and other communication professionals across Radboudumc.

Who are you?

• You are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree, for example in communication, journalism, media, or a related field, or you are studying a scientific discipline and have a minor or background in communication.
• You have an affinity for communication, writing and content creation.
• Preferably, you already have some experience with writing, interviewing, editorial work, or content creation, for example through your studies, student media, an internship, your own projects, or a portfolio. You are interested in science and research and enjoy exploring new topics.
• You are interested in science and research and enjoy quickly familiarizing yourself with new topics.
• You have a journalistic mindset: you are curious, ask good questions, know when to probe further, and can recognise what makes a topic an interesting story.You are a good listener and know how to identify the essence of a story.
• You can independently pick up an assignment and take responsibility for moving it forward.
• You write clearly, accessibly, and engagingly in English, and feel comfortable interviewing researchers in English.
• You are able to understand complex scientific topics and make them accessible without oversimplifying them.
• You have a good command of English, both written and spoken.
• You enjoy thinking about different formats and communication channels.
• You are independent and proactive, and you are not afraid to approach researchers yourself.
• You have a fresh perspective and enjoy experimenting with new ideas.
• Experience with video, photography, social media, or visual content is a plus, but not a requirement.

• For this assignment, you will be employed by the FLEXbureau, part of Radboudumc. You will typically be offered a zero-hours contract. You are entitled to a 12% compensation allowance to cover holiday pay and compensation for public holidays and leave days. These allowances are paid monthly in addition to your gross hourly wage.
• A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required for this position.
